13.14 Defining free body cuts

Product: Abaqus/CAE

Benefits: A new method for selecting the summation point, the ability to create a datum coordinate system when you define a free body cut, and a new default color for moment vectors improve the usability of free body cuts in the Visualization module.

Description: When you create a free body cut, you can now select a point from the viewport to define the summation point from which the vectors in the free body cut originate. When you choose the user-defined method to define the summation point, the point is highlighted in the viewport. In addition, when you adjust the orientation of component vector display for a free body cut, you now have the option of creating a new datum coordinate system when you create the free body cut.

Once you define a free body cross-section, Abaqus/CAE displays vectors that show the magnitude and direction of the resultant forces and moments across the area you select. Previously, the force vectors and moment vectors were red by default; now, the moment vectors are blue, as shown in Figure 13–4.
