12.4 Using FMUs in co-simulation analyses

Product: Abaqus/Standard

Benefits: You can now include models in the form of Functional Mockup Units in your co-simulation analyses.

Description: You can now include models in the form of Functional Mockup Units (FMUs) in your co-simulation analyses. FMUs are model representations that adhere to the simulation-tool independent Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) standard for model exchange (model exchange format FMU) and for co-simulation (co-simulation format FMU). Refer to https://www.fmi-standard.org for more information on the standard as well as a catalog of tool vendors that support creation of FMU files.

The FMI standard is intended for models that interact through scalar variables, and it provides functionality that complements the field (e.g., mesh-to-mesh) interactions supported in the SIMULIA Co-Simulation Engine. FMUs are ideally suited for packaging and reuse of higher abstraction models, such as Modelica models, which can be exported as FMUs through Dymola. A common use for FMUs with Abaqus models is to provide controller behaviors, where the controller is authored and tuned in an authoring environment like Dymola. The SIMULIA Co-Simulation Engine and related Abaqus driver functionality support use of co-simulation format FMU files. Model-exchange FMUs are not supported.
