6.6 Enhancements to the critical state (clay) plasticity model

Products: Abaqus/Standard  Abaqus/Explicit  Abaqus/CAE

Benefits: The critical state (clay) plasticity model can now be used to study deformation of orthotropic materials such as laminated shale.

Description: Previously, the yield function of the clay plasticity model was isotropic and could only be used with isotropic elasticity. The existing model is enhanced to include an anisotropic yield function and orthotropic elastic behavior. In addition, a yield stress in hydrostatic tension can now be defined as a function of the volumetric plastic strain. The enhanced clay plasticity model can be used in conjunction with a softening regularization scheme to get mesh-insensitive post-localization solutions. The initial conditions on plastic strains can also be defined in a more generalized manner.
